Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Another Buffalo Thanksgiving weekend tradition returns, as the World's Largest Disco is back at the Buffalo Convention Center this Saturday night.

Dave Pietrowski launched the event in 1994, and turning the Convention Center into a 1970s-era discotheque is no easy task.

"It takes us about 10 days. We have 22 tractor trailers full of sound, light and and 70s furniture. And let me tell you, those couches aren't light," said Pietrowski in an interview with WBEN on Friday.

It's a tradition to not announce who the guests will be until Saturday morning, but Pietrowski says getting stars from the 1970s to appear is no easy task either.

"Most guests from the '70s are in their late 70s, and it's very difficult to get them to do things like this, especially when most of them live on the West Coast, because they worked and retired in California," Pietrowski noted.

Disco has become more of a pop culture event, as the demographics have changed over the years.

"People that went for years one through 15 finally retired, and their spot has been taken up by somebody 21 and 25 and honestly, they don't know any of those celebrities. So we can put up people like David Cassidy and Laverne and Shirley, and they don't know who they are. So we thought we'd find some people that were maybe a little bit more age appropriate," Pietrowski explained.

This year's disco sold out in less than an hour, but Pietrowski says you don't have to have a ticket for Saturday to get on the mailing list for next year's disco.
