Superintendent Cash's contract extended until 2023

Buffalo Board of Education made unanimous decision last night

BUFFALO (WBEN) - On Tuesday night, the Buffalo Board of Education made the unanimous decision to extend Superintendent Dr. Kriner Cash's contract until June of 2023.

"I think he has demonstrated since 2015 that he is the right leader for Buffalo Public Schools," said Board Member Larry Scott. "It's evident in some of the results we're seeing as far as the increased growth of schools in good standing, considerable growth in our graduation rate, and I think since the beginning of this pandemic, Dr. Cash has demonstrated that he is the right and necessary leader to lead through and beyond this pandemic..."

Scott also added that it was a priority that the board ensured stability and consistency given the pandemic and the unknown of what will happen with school districts moving forward.

Despite some differences in opinion with Cash on various topics, Buffalo Teachers Federation President Phil Rumore also agreed with the extension decision.

"I think it was the right decision to make," he began. "We've had our disagreements as we always do, but I think that the number-one thing that the superintendent is concerned about are the kids, so we can disagree on other issues, but when it comes to the kids, that's his number-one concern, and I think it was the right thing to do."
