After a wet start Friday, temperatures will soar to near 50 degrees in spots, capping off a weekday meltdown across the Buffalo-Niagara region, before we return to winter for the weekend.

"Temperatures are going to rise into the 40's, and some places might actually reach 50 today," National Weather Service meteorologist Heather Kenyon tells WBEN.

But then things begin to change for the weekend.

A cold front will cross the region Friday afternoon, bringing with it gusty winds of up to 40 mph at times.

"With that cold air will move back in, and any lingering rain showers are going to change over to snow this evening, and then we're going to have snow showers on and off through the weekend."

Only minor accumulations are expected, and most of it will be across the higher terrain to the south and east of the Buffalo metro area.

"Maybe 1 to 3 inches tonight(Friday) across the higher spots," Kenyon says, "And then a few inches here and there this weekend."

We will kickoff the coming work week with near normal temperatures in the 30's Monday, and colder Tuesday in the 20's.

"After that we are going to see a warming trend midweek, until late next week."
