Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - A storm system packing a punch for portions of the Midwest and even Northeast will skirt Western New York Sunday, resulting in showers and the possibility of some thunderstorms to round out the weekend.

"We are expecting mostly rain showers across our region," National Weather Service meteorologist Phillip Pandolfo tells WBEN Sunday morning. "We are expecting a few thunderstorms to develop, mainly south of the area. But the best chance of any thunderstorms would be across the southern tier and maybe the southern Finger Lakes as well."
Any chance of severe weather across WNY from the fast moving system is only slight, according to the National Storm Prediction Center. "For our forecast area, we just have a marginal risk of severe thunderstorms across far southern portions of the southern tier," Pandolfo said.
On the down side, Pandolfo says temperatures will be trending below normal in the coming weeks. "The climate prediction center has us below normal temperatures favored the next couple of weeks."
