NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — A "Welcome To Iowa" sign was hung Thursday in a Lower Manhattan park aiming to grab Mayor Bill de Blasio's attention.
According to WCBS 880’s Rich Lamb, two comedians erected the large, green sign in City Hall Park, and joked that they were unofficially renaming City Hall, “Iowa.”
“People could come to Iowa to tell you how tired they are of the city's crumbling subway system or you could address the lack of affordable housing in New York City from right here in Iowa or you could pick up the phone and call Governor Cuomo and solve your feud from right here in Iowa,” said Davram Stiefler.
He and Jason Selvig waved ears of fresh corn and corn dogs on a stick as New Yorkers passed the park.
The comedic duo was trying to draw attention to Mayor de Blasio’s frequent trips out of New York City to Iowa as he continues to struggle to generate support in his bid for president.
While the two were mainly joking, there was a kernel of truth to the demonstration as they tried to get the mayor to address the issues at home before trying to solve the nation’s problems.
The pair also had smaller signs reading, “De Blasio For Resident.”
