NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – Coronavirus fears are spreading to the justice system in New York.

A federal judge has ordered inmates to get their temperatures checked before their court appearance.

Justice Colleen McMahon, the chief federal judge in the Southern District of New York said inmates at the Metropolitan Correction Center in Manhattan won’t be seen in court if their temperatures are high.

“If the temperature is 100.4 or above, such detainees should not be produced and the Court, forthwith, be notified,” read the order before it was sealed, the New York Post reported.

The order was issued Friday—a day after a prospective juror was dismissed from duty after it was found he or she went to temple the same day as someone with the virus.

The prospective juror was not showing any symptoms and was told to self-isolate.
