NEW YORK (WCBS 880/AP) -- A colossal sculpture that will give people more than 150 interconnected stairways to climb is opening to the public as part of the long-awaited Hudson Yards development. The "Vessel,'' a metal structure in the shape of an inverted honeycomb, is opening to the public on Friday as part of the launch of the first phase of the Hudson Yards project on Manhattan's west side.
Crain's Greg David tells WCBS 880 that Hudson Yards will also eventually pay for a subway extension to the area.
"This is very unusual in New York where a new development is going to cover the cost of a major expansion of our infrastructure," Davis said.
