MILLER PLACE, N.Y. (WCBS 880) — A man was arrested Tuesday after police say he hit and killed a 31-year-old woman with his car on Long Island.
The incident happened around 10 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Miller Place Road and Echo Avenue in Miller Place.
Prosecutors say 30-year-old John Lang behind the wheel of a Hyundai with Florida plates that struck and killed 31-year-old Mary Ginty before fleeing the scene.
Authorities say the two knew one another and there is a photo of the two posing together on social media, according to WCBS 880’s Sophia Hall.
Prosecutors say Lang admitted he hit Ginty and drove off, because he has pending cases against him – including driving without a license and drug charges.
In court papers, Lang said "I accidentally clipped her. I did not see her. I drove off, because I have a warrant."
According to Hall, Ginty worked as a server at a pizzeria and Lang was living off public assistance.
He pleaded not guilty and is being held on $150,000 bond.
