MINEOLA, N.Y. (WCBS 880) — Nassau County is rolling out a new program to ensure potholes and other issues on the roadways are fixed.

Drivers who commute using the same routes everyday know best what the issues are on those roadways. That’s why the county is giving power to the residents in reporting the problems in real-time.

"Everywhere I go, it doesn't matter what the topic is or where I am in the county, residents ask about our roads, and what are we doing to fix the roads, what are we doing about the potholes," said County Executive Laura Curran.

She says a new website and app will allow residents to report issues to the county and receive updates as to which roadways will be repaved this year and when.

“I want to assure you, we are taking action with an unprecedented aggressive resurfacing strategy which is now available to the public so that they can see what's happening,” the county executive said.

The websites and app can also inform residents as to which jurisdiction is supposed to maintain the roadways, whether it be the county, state or federal government.

Curran notes that Nassau County has invested $65 million to restore roadways.
