NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- Mayor Bill de Blasio has chosen four streets in New York City to close to traffic as part of a social distancing pilot program as a response to coronavirus.

Short stretches of four streets in Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx and Queens will become pedestrian-only from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. starting Friday and running through Monday.

In Manhattan, Park Avenue will be closed between 28th and 34th Streets. In Brooklyn, Bushwick Avenue will close between Johnson and Flushing Avenues. In the Bronx, the Grand Concourse will close between East Burnside Avenue and 184 the Street. In Queens, 34th Avenue will close between 73rd and 80th Streets.

Police will be stationed to ensure that the streets are kept for pedestrians and that social distancing is maintained. Cars parked on those streets may remain there.

"Additional sites are being considered for this initial pilot and will be announced when details are finalized,"  Jane Meyer, a spokesperson for the mayor, told The New York Post. "These current locations will be re-evaluated for continued public access."
