NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — It doesn’t matter how old you are, you can still lend a helping hand during these uncertain times.

Cyrus Green is just 9-years-old and lives in Westchester County, where two years ago, he met Zane.

Zane is a German Shepard who is part of the K9 Unit at the Lewisboro Police Department, but Green loves him as though he were his own dog.

“He’s a good dog,” Green says.

The 9-year-old loved the dog so much, he wanted to do something for his new pal and he and his mom, Alison, brainstormed some ideas of how they could help Zane and the K9 Unit during the pandemic.

“What he would have liked to have done is start a landscaping business, but we decided against that, because he is too young to push a lawnmower,” Green’s mom tells WCBS 880.

She works in greeting cards – so they thought that 9-year-old Green could as well.

Green now sells his own cards on a website hosted on Smores.com and all proceeds go to help Zane.

The 9-year-old tells WCBS 880 he’s raised “about 800 bucks” and is very proud of his work.

Sgt Andrew Llewellyn – Zane’s human partner – is also proud, and grateful for Green’s generosity.

“Without the remarkable effort of Cyrus and the Green family we would not be able to sustain our unit,” Llewellyn said.

Zane’s training and certifications are funded purely from private sources, according to the department.

The 9-year-old says on his website that the money raised will go to support Zane’s ongoing training, certifications, equipment and food.

Each box of greeting cards he creates has 30 or 50 cards and costs $30.
