NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Some lawmakers and activists are calling for an independent panel to research the federal government’s response to the coronavirus pandemic.
As the death toll from the virus continued to rise throughout the county, many were left wondering what could have been done differently to prevent tragedy.
Former New Jersey Gov. Tom Kean, who was chairman of the bipartisan 9/11 Commission, says the country deserves to know what went right and what went wrong.
“I think we badly need a look back,” he said. “There’s plenty of blame to go around. I mean if we want to start blaming people, I can name 10, 11 people we can blame. But that's not what it's about. You have to understand this. It's for the future. It's for the children who could be faced with the same kinds of problems.”
Kean is a Republican who believes this isn't about politics, but the future.
“If we have to go back through the same problems again without that road map then it's going to be something our kids, grandkids are going to regret and their going to blame us for it, and they should,” Kean said.
There's been no word on if there will be a coronavirus commission created in the near future.
