Fast-Moving Fire Destroys Several Row Houses On Staten Island

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- A wind-whipped fire destroyed several row houses on Staten Island Monday afternoon.

More than 100 firefighters battled the fire on on Rensselaer Avenue in the Prince's Bay section of the borough.

One resident and three fire fighters suffered minor injuries in the blaze that quickly spread to five alarms.

Smoke could be seen for miles. The FDNY and Mayor Bill de Blasio urged people to avoid the area.

The fire was brought under control a few hours later.
