NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — An online fundraiser has been setup for the Bronx dad who was shot protecting his three children from gunfire during a shootout Monday night.
Police say gunfire erupted into a Bronx car dealership late Monday evening in what was believed to be a gang-related incident.
Video from the incident showed bullets crashing through glass inside the building and 39-year-old Anthony Jefferson is seen throwing his body over his three children, who were inside at the time of the shooting.
While no one was killed, the 39-year-old father was struck in the thigh and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
On Friday, however, Jefferson’s wife told TMZ that the injury left him temporarily unable to walk, which has resulted in the heroic dad being laid off from his jobs in the construction industry.
To help the family recover from the 39-year-old being out of work, and to help with medical costs, a friend setup a GoFundMe page for them.
On the website, the friend notes that the family is “beyond traumatized” from the incident.
As of Friday at 8 p.m., more than $154,000 had been raised.
