'Maria The Ice Cream Girl' Brings Brooklyn Residents Together In Song

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — There are now lots of songs on the internet to bring some joy in this depressing era, but few like the one put together by Maria the Ice Cream Girl from Bensonhurst, Brooklyn.

Maria Campanella early on gathered her friends in the neighborhood, virtually, and put them to song back in March. She was one of the first to do so.

Lots of people quickly took notice.

“It just made a lot of people smile and that's what it's all about," Campanella said.

Maria the Ice Cream Girl has been driving her truck around Brooklyn for more than 20 years after taking the route over from her father.

She has become quite the neighborhood character and doing something like this surprises no one.
