NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Mayor Bill de Blasio said Wednesday that he’s never been tested for coronavirus.

The mayor was asked when he was most recently tested for the virus by WCBS 880’s Rich Lamb, to which the mayor confirmed he had never been tested.

“I haven’t been tested this whole time,” de Blasio said. “Certainly, from the perspective of City Hall, there is not a regular testing program. We do our best to take the precautions that we talk about with everyone and there’s not a regular testing protocol. There’s a devotion to trying to be careful.”

Mayor de Blasio said that given the small amount of staff at City Hall, there isn’t much worry about infection.

“We have a skeleton staff here, obviously,” he said. “City Hall is usually a place that buzzes with activity, and it’s really quiet nowadays comparatively. There’s a core group of people here doing a whole lot of hard work and working closely with out colleagues and agencies all over the city.”

“But no, there has not been a need for testing on any greater level,” the mayor explained.

It’s unclear if the mayor has exhibited any coronavirus symptoms, be he has made several trips to area hospitals in recent weeks with his wife, First Lady Chirlane McCray.
