NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — A teenager charged in the death of 18-year-old Tessa Majors pleaded guilty to robbery on Wednesday.
The teen, who was 13-years-old when he was arrested just after the Dec. 11 killing, told detectives he was in Morningside Park with two other teenagers who robbed Majors, a freshman at Barnard College, but he did not do the stabbing.
In a statement, The Legal Aid Society said that the robbery plea “is consistent with our client's limited role in this tragic event.”
He will be sentenced on June 15 to a limited security facility for possibly six to 18 months, according to an ABC News report.
Majors was stabbed several times in a mugging gone wrong and attempted to reach a security booth located at the top of a flight of straits. According to police, the 18-year-old’s last words were “help me, I’m being robbed” as she staggered up the staircase.
Two other 14-year-olds are being charged as adults in the murder. One is accused of placing Majors in a headlock, preventing her from escaping while the other stabbed her.
Their cases are pending in Manhattan Criminal Court. They both have plead not guilty.
