NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- Those flying in the next few months may be tempted to cancel their plans now due to coronavirus, but experts are saying to wait and see what happens.
CBS Travel Expert Peter Greenberg says the airlines might eventually waive penalties and fees.
"My advice is wait," Greenberg said. "Don't cancel now, don't subject yourself to a Draconian change fee. Wait to see what happens."
He also says the impact to the hospitality industry of the COVID-19 outbreak will be devastating. Tourism accounts for 300,000 jobs in New York City.
"So it's the waitress, it's the guy who drives the cab, it's the guy who cleans, you know, the airplanes," he said. "It's everything that's related to the travel industry itself."
