JACKSON, N.J. (WCBS 880) — Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey will be reopening for the 4th of July holiday weekend with extensive new safety measures in place.

The amusement park will open July 3 to members and season pass holders. The general public will be admitted on July 4.

Six Flags is taking several steps to ensure the health and safety of its staff and visitors, including setting an attendance cap to allow for proper social distancing. This will be done using an online reservation system that will help manage attendance, schedule guests for entry by day, and stagger arrival times to minimize proximity exposure.

The park will also use thermal imaging to screen temperatures, implement touchless bag checks and utilize mobile food ordering.

Face coverings are mandatory and social distancing will be strictly enforced, with markers added at park entrances, rides, restrooms, retail locations, and dining queue lines. Masks will not be required on waterslides, water attractions, or in pools.

The park is also implementing extensive sanitization and disinfecting protocols.

"Six Flags Great Adventure and Hurricane Harbor are beloved outdoor destinations for so many in the Northeast, and we look forward to welcoming families back to our parks. The safety of our guests and team members remains our number one priority, and the new safety guidelines we have put in place are designed to create a safe environment for everyone," said Six Flags Great Adventure and Hurricane Harbor Park President John Winkler.

"This 'new normal' will be different in some ways, but we believe these additional measures are appropriate in the current environment," said Six Flags President and CEO Mike Spanos.

The announcement comes a day after Gov. Phil Murphy announced outdoor water parks and amusements parks – including rides on the boardwalks along the Jersey shore – will open at 50% capacity on July 2.

A reopening date for Six Flags Hurricane Harbor has not yet been announced.

The park's Wild Safari Drive-Thru Adventure has been open since May 30.
