As the Giants prepare for their preseason finale against the Jets on Saturday, Boomer and Gio both believe that Daniel Jones should get some snaps in the game and try to build off how last week’s performance ended.
“Especially to build off of some of the stuff we were talking about earlier this week, where they were throwing the ball down the field and he looked really good after those two interceptions,” Gio said. “A quarter can’t hurt.”
Boomer agrees, and wants to see Jones get some playing time, and for Brian Daboll to continue to challenge him with deep balls down the field to prepare him for the start of the season.
“I would put him out there…especially since the Jets aren’t playing their starting defense,” Boomer said. “Get out there, get some throws in, get a feel of the game, get some more confidence, and throw the ball down the field.”
For Gio, knocking off as much rust as possible is pivotal, especially for a team like the Giants, who are looking to avoid an awful start to the season like the one that plagued them last year, when a blowout loss to the rival Cowboys on opening night set the tone for a 2-8 start that the team could never recover from.
“If you have any chance of this Giants season being a good one, you have to win these first two games,” Gio said. “So they have to come out of the gates playing well.”
The Giants start the season against Sam Darnold and the Vikings before traveling to face the rival Commanders, but after that, a road matchup with the Browns and a home bout with the Cowboys awaits, so for Gio, a 2-0 start is an absolute must.
