NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – A man suspected of trying to steal a woman’s purse and carjacking her vehicle jumped off the Brooklyn Bridge Saturday night, landing on the street below – and in a hospital in critical condition.
Police say the man tried to steal the woman’s purse in Dumbo before stealing her car with her inside and bolting towards the Brooklyn Bridge towards Manhattan.
He was planning to take the FDR Drive but was met on the exit ramp by police, according to the NYPD, which said he rammed a cop car.
He tried to exit again at Pearl Street but cops were waiting for him there too, police said.
Out of options, the man jumped off the bridge to the pavement below.
He was in critical condition at Bellevue Hospital on Sunday.
The woman who was carjacked was not injured, nor were any police officers.
