MASTIC, N.Y. (WCBS 880) — Eleven people from Long Island have been charged in connection to a sex trafficking ring.

The men and women, mainly from the Bay Shore and Mastic communities in Suffolk County, are charged with sex trafficking at least 10 young women.

They are also accused of punching, choking and threatening the victims if they did not comply.

All have been or are expected to be arraigned in federal court in Central Islip.

Authorities say the crimes occurred over the course of about six years, between 2012 and 2018.

The suspects allegedly advertised the victims on the internet and would force them to travel into the New York City area or Connecticut areas to meet men and engage in sexual acts.

The 11 face numerous charges, including conspiracy and sex trafficking by force.
