7 Years Later: YMCA Healthy Living Center Opens

NEW YORK (WCBS880) — The planning started seven years ago, and today the healthy living center at the YMCA in Huntington has opened.

The brand new center is meant for people of all ages, says the Y’s Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Eileen Knauer.

“We’ve designed this space to be able to accommodate the different times of the day where the needs are going to be different,” Knauer says.

The Y has over seven hundred kids enrolled in its summer camp, so the center features basketball courts that can turn into volleyball courts and pickle ball courts, as well as spaces specific to science technology.

As for adults, the center offers exercise and healthy eating programs.

Knauer says that the center is home to “all of our programs that are focused on health and wellness, and that means a lot of different things to a lot of different people.”

The 30 thousand square foot center seems to offer something for everyone. Those who are seeking a specialized program or who are just trying to get in shape can most certainly find their place here.​
