NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- Some new cars are making their debut at the New York International Auto Show.
The show is open to the public at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center from April 19-28, but the press got a sneak peek at all of the new rides on Wednesday.
While most of the new models are SUVs and crossovers, Jeff Gilbert, auto reporter for our sister station WWJ Newsradio 950, got to test drive the 2019 World Car of the Year -- the Jaguar I-Pace, which beat the electric Audi E-Tron and Volvo S60/V60 for the title.
The luxury vehicle has a price tag of $70,525 and a range of 234 miles per charge.
Gilbert says when it comes to electric vehicles, Rivian is a must-see for visitors to the auto show.
"That's a startup, they kind of want to be the next Tesla, except they're doing SUVs and pickups, go-anywhere, full off-roader kind of vehicles," Gilbert said. "They're getting a lot of response and they've got a lot of funding. Amazon just put about $800 million dollars into them so they've got a ton of money to do what they want to do."
