NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The Food and Drug Administration will likely approve Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine by Friday evening, according to a report.
The agency was originally expected to issue emergency authorization for the vaccine on Saturday, but is now set to fast-track the process and approve it on Friday, the New York Times reported.
In a tweet sent out Friday morning, President Donald Trump chastised FDA Commissioner Dr. Stephen Hahn for not authorizing the vaccine sooner, despite the fact that an FDA advisory panel only recommended authorization Thursday night.
“While my pushing the money drenched but heavily bureaucratic [FDA] saved five years in the approval of NUMEROUS great new vaccines, it is still a big, old, slow turtle,” Trump wrote. “Get the dam [sic] vaccines out NOW, Dr. Hahn. Stop playing games and start saving lives!!!”
The FDA still needs to “complete the required paperwork that goes with the authorization, including a fact sheet and information for physicians,” the Times noted.
On Friday, the agency put out a statement saying it would “rapidly work toward finalization and issuance of an emergency use authorization.”
