Central Park’s iconic Loeb Boathouse restaurant announces reopening date

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Lakeside dining is returning to Central Park just in time for spring as the famed Loeb Boathouse announces it will reopen later this month a year after closing.

In an Instagram post, the Boathouse said the restaurant will reopen Monday, March 29 for lunch, brunch and private events.

"It is with a full heart and great joy that we announce the reopening of the Boathouse! We missed you as much as you missed us! A heartfelt thanks to all who reached out," the post read.

The Boathouse will serve lunch Monday through Friday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. and weekend brunch from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Reservations can be made at thecentralparkboathouse.com.

They also plan to reopen rowboat rentals.

The Loeb Boathouse first opened in the early 1860s and was renamed in the 1950s for investment banker Carl M. Loeb, who donated money to help restore the structure.

The restaurant, located near the Bethesda Fountain, offers picturesque views of Central Park and is a popular location for weddings.

Its views overlooking The Lake in Central Park was made famous by 1989’s “When Harry Met Sally” and 2008’s “27 Dresses.”

While the Boathouse offered take out at the start of the pandemic, it closed back in October due to "unforeseeable business circumstances prompted by COVID-19" and 163 employees who were furloughed in March 2020 were laid off, The City reported at the time.

There were hopes it would return by April 2021.
