DEER PARK, N.Y. (WCBS 880) — Suffolk County Police are looking for two people who are accused of following a woman home from a Long Island mall and stealing her newly-purchased Louis Vuitton purse from her car late last month.
The victim bought the $3,100 handbag at Saks Fifth Avenue inside the Walt Whitman Shops in Huntington Station on Jan. 28.
Police said as the victim was leaving the mall she noticed a woman filming her, but thought nothing of it.
She then got into her vehicle and drove off not realizing that the woman, along with a man, had followed her to her home in Deer Park.
As the victim's vehicle was parked in the driveway, police said the two suspects were caught on surveillance video smashing the rear window of the car and snatching the purse.
The victim said she has been traumatized by the incident and has been having trouble sleeping.
"I was in my driveway, so it should be safe and everything, but apparently it's not," the victim said. "I'm angry. I'm distraught. I'm terrified. I can't sleep at night. It's a horrible incident for me."
The victim said she left the bag for a few minutes as she ran into the house to get ready for her disabled daughter to return home from school.
"I did not notice anybody following me or anything like that, but like 1:43-ish, around that time I stepped into my home. At 1:47 p.m. somebody just broke into my car and broke the back windshield," the victim said. "The officers came and they said they never heard anything like that."
