NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Another batch of mass COVID-19 vaccination sites will be closing across New York.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Monday that the vaccination hubs at the Conference and Event Center Niagara Falls, Plattsburgh International Airport, SUNY Polytechnic Institute - Utica, and Jones Beach will cease operations Monday, July 19.

The mass vaccination site at the New York State Fairgrounds will also be relocated from the Expo Center to the Arts & Home Center this Wednesday.

The closures are part of a downscaling announced back in June aimed at shifting the focus to local efforts to get more shots in arms in communities with vaccination rates lower than the state average.

"As our vaccination efforts continue across the state, we are continuing to target communities that have lower vaccination rates and using every tool at our disposal to make the vaccine accessible to every New Yorker," Cuomo said. "In line with this strategy, the downscaling of our mass vaccination sites is proceeding as planned and we are shifting resources to where they are most needed, so we can get more shots into people's arms and defeat this virus once and for all."

Vaccination sites at Suffolk County Community College - Brentwood, SUNY Ulster, and the Javits Center were shut down last Friday.
