NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — The New York Mets will be celebrating the LGBTQ community with a special evening at Citi Field on Friday when the team plays a doubleheader against the Phillies.
The big sign over at Coca-Cola corner will be lit up in rainbow colors and the first 12,000 fans will receive a special, limited edition T-shirt in celebration of the team's annual Pride night.
Mr. and Mrs. Met will also be decked out in their Pride gear.
"Pride Night is a great opportunity to bring together our diverse Queens community," said Austin Seamster of the Mets.
Seamster notes the Mets were the first professional New York-area team out of the MLB, NBA, NFL, or NHL to host a Pride Night back in 2016.
"To do it has been really our duty and our responsibility to bring this community together," he said.
Seamster said Pride Night sends a message of inclusion and acceptance.
A portion of each ticket sold will benefit the nonprofit LGBT Network. For more information visit, Mets.com/pride.
The first game of the double header begins at 4:10 p.m. The second game will start approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
Both games will be seven-inning contests.
You can listen to the Mets on WCBS 880, on our stream and on the Audacy app.
