NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- U.S. coronavirus cases surpassed 12 million on Saturday after the nation reported a record single-day increase.
Cases had reached at least 12,019,000 by Saturday afternoon, according to Johns Hopkins University data.
The U.S. has recorded more than 1 million cases in less than a week. The nation reached the 11 million mark last Sunday.
There were over 198,500 new cases on Friday alone, the most reported in a single day in the U.S., the New York Times reported.
Hospitalizations also hit a record-high Friday at more than 82,000 patients, according the COVID Tracking Project.
At least 255,177 people have died in the U.S. since the pandemic began, according to Johns Hopkins University.
