Addressing reports that Patriots ownership could be pondering a future without Bill Belichick after this season, Boomer and Gio wondered if such a turn of events could lead one of the most accomplished head coaches in league history to his former home.
“Could you imagine Bill Belichick walking the Giants sidelines and setting the all-time wins record as a head coach?” Boomer said. “If the Giants end up blowing this thing and it gives them a top-three draft pick, and if you’re John Mara and you’re trying to sell season tickets and restore the pride of the Giants, what better way to do that than with Bill Belichick?”
Boomer did note that Belichick’s strong ties in New England, including having family in the front office, could make a divorce dicey, while Gio isn’t even sure the Giants should bring in Belichick if he became available, given his struggles in recent years and the drop-off since Tom Brady left.
“I don’t think he’d end up here with the Giants,” Gio said. “Because I think Brian Daboll will turn things around this year.”
