Jonathan Casillas told BT & Sal in Wednesday’s Giants report that he would be good with a Bill Belichick return to New York to finish out as head coach of the Giants, as long as Bill can get his next Tom Brady.
That’s possible, if Big Blue gets a Top 2 pick and can snag either Caleb Williams or Drake Maye in the Draft, but even then…yeah, is it really the right idea?
“The idea you’d move on from (Brian Daboll and/or Joe Schoen) after this year is ridiculous…UNLESS Bill Belichick actually does become available. I mean, how do you turn Belichick down?” Sal asked.
“Belichick without Tom Brady is really not a heck of a lot, and if I thought that that Daboll was a one-hit wonder, or wasn’t gonna grow into the modern NFL, maybe it’s a little different,” BT replied. “But I’ve got a lot of faith in Daboll.”
It’s a relevant conversation, Sal says, because the Giants haven’t had sustained success, and if Bill wants the job, it might become available. He doesn’t see Belichick trying to undercut Daboll, but…
“Let’s just say that the Giants say, ‘hey, we want you.’ I think that's an organization he would want,” Sal said.
Sal, too, believes in Daboll, even though this year “has been awful,’ but again…
“There’s something inside me that feels like he is the right guy; it feels different despite the results being similar to what we’ve seen, and I believe he's gonna be a good head coach and he's the right guy to develop a young quarterback,” Sal said. “HOWEVER, Bill Belichick is the greatest of all time and there's no doubt that he knows how to run an organization.”
Guess the only thing we can do is wait and see…
