Kadarius Toney stepped behind a microphone decked out in Chiefs gear for the first time on Wednesday, talking to reporters after being traded from the Giants to Kansas City.
Toney, a former first-round pick for Big Blue, battled injuries, was shipped out in a move that led many to believe was done for culture purposes as much as availability, but Toney is looking forward to being a part of a new team led by superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
“I was kind of shocked, but I’m just thankful for the opportunity,” Toney said. “I know the business side of it. I wasn’t too hard on it, or this or that.
“I’m just looking forward to the opportunity that I have here.”
The opportunity could come as early as this Sunday against the Titans, according to Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, and would see Toney lined up with Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and the high-powered Kansas City offense.
“It feels good to be wanted by a team,” Toney said. “It’s a great opportunity for everybody. Fresh start for me, able to step into the AFC and show them what I can do over here.”
