As the Giants sit with the sixth overall pick in the upcoming draft, Keith says the team can’t afford to pass on taking a quarterback that can potentially be their future franchise cornerstone.
Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen have experience in that department from their time in Buffalo, when Josh Allen was built into a star, and Keith says the Giants regime needs the opportunity to repeat that success story in New York.
“You defaulted into the Daniel Jones contract, but we know you don’t love him,” Keith said. “You didn’t draft him. You didn’t even pick up his rookie option, which would have been half of what you had to pay him this year. So you can’t sell me on this being a deep quarterback draft.
“You gotta trust that Brian Daboll knows who he wants and who he doesn’t want, and I would guess that he doesn’t really want Daniel Jones. Or Tyrod Taylor. Or Tommy Cutlets.”
With a loaded quarterback class, the Giants could move up to get one of the top QBs in the draft, or take a quality prospect at six. Regardless, one of their top picks should be used on Jones’ potential replacement.
“This is you GM and head coach with an opportunity to draft their guy,” Keith said. “This is an opportunity to go get your quarterback of the future and mold him.”
