Craig Carton was NOT happy with Bill Belichick after the first round of the NFL Draft.
Belichick’s Patriots swung a draft night deal with the Steelers on Thursday, allowing Pittsburgh to move up to pick 14, one ahead of the Jets at 15 after Gang Green moved back from 13 following the trade for Aaron Rodgers.
As a result, the Steelers grabbed offensive tackle Broderick Jones from Georgia, taking a coveted piece off the board for New York, which Craig was convinced is part of a 20-year vendetta that Belichick has seemed to hold against the Jets, and this year will be time for payback.
“The goal for this year, in addition to winning the Super Bowl: the two times the Jets play against the Patriots, we are going to hurt Mac Jones,” Craig said. “We are going to sack him, we are gonna tackle him, we’re gonna rub his nose in it.
“What did Mac Jones do wrong? Not a damn thing. But Bill Belichick has had a two-decade dislike and hatred for our franchise. I don’t know why, all we did was offer him a job. Last night, again, because he’s so insecure and bitter that the Jets got Aaron Rodgers, he made a trade with the Steelers so that Pittsburgh could take the offensive lineman we wanted.”
After the trade, the Jets used nearly all of their allotted time to make a pick before taking edge rusher Will McDonald, in what seemed like an obvious backup from the team’s primary goal of adding a lineman to bolster the protection for Rodgers. Joe Douglas told reporters after their draft pick that they weren’t going to reach just to fill a need, so New York didn’t take an offensive lineman.
Craig says it’s all because of Belichick and the Patriots, and karma will come around to bite him.
“That’s how you want it, Bill? Good, because you’re coming in dead last in the AFC East this year,” Craig said. “And it’ll be my pleasure to pour dirt on the grave of your coaching career. And we’re gonna do that by hurting your starting quarterback.”
