Evan has heard all the trash talk from NFL fans about the Jets having no chance against the Chiefs on Sunday, and heard the analysts predicting a blowout in favor of the defending champs.
Maybe the defiant fan in him is letting his belief run wild, but Evan says he has a case for Gang Green pulling off the upset, which he says wouldn’t be nearly as big an upset as some seem to believe it would be.
“They can win this freakin’ football game,” Evan said, making sure to be clear that his belief in the Jets has nothing to do with Zach Wilson.
“This defense can be really, really good. It can be,” Evan said. “The biggest critique I can lay down on them over the last nine weeks, going back to last year, is while at times they can keep offenses off the board, they don’t force enough turnovers. I’ve seen this Kansas City team turn it over six times in three games. I’ve seen a Chiefs team that has been sloppy, that was winning 7-6 at halftime against the Jaguars.”
The Jets are 8.5 point underdogs at home, and clearly not being given much of a shot to end their two-game losing streak. But Evan believes the defense can come out looking the way they did in their season opener against the Bills, and stun Kansas City and Taylor Swift, who is expected to be in attendance watching Travis Kelce.
“It is not crazy - in fact, I would actually tell you it’s the likelier scenario - that we are sitting around at halftime, and we have watched an ugly first half that is close,” Evan said.
“I’ve seen much bigger upsets than the Jets beating the Chiefs on Sunday night. Are we new here? This is not a swiss cheese defense. To act like the Jets have absolutely no shot…that’s crazy.”
