The Jets nearly pulled out an improbable win over the defending champion Chiefs on Sunday night, but what looked like another interception of Patrick Mahomes was negated by a defensive holding call on Sauce Gardner, extending what would be the game-sealing drive in the fourth quarter.
Robert Saleh was incensed when the flag was thrown on Gardner with the Jets down by three with just minutes to go in the game, wiping away what would have been another chance for Zach Wilson and company to go out and win the game.
Another clip went viral during a 3rd-and-22 in which Mahomes somehow rushed for a first down to extend the drive, but the clip made its rounds due to what appeared to be a missed holding call, as Jets pass rusher Jermaine Johnson looked to be held for an extended period of time before Mahomes was flushed out of the pocket.
After the Chiefs sealed the win, Saleh was whistled for an unsportsmanlike conduct for going back to the officials to argue about the call on Gardner.
“I have a lot of thoughts on it,” Saleh said. “But I’m gonna stay quiet.”
Michael Carter II went to X (formerly known as Twitter) after the game and made his thoughts clear, posting, “That was not holding…”
