In a recent report by The Athletic, an anonymous AFC general manager said that Joe Douglas is the assistant general manager to Aaron Rodgers, which Gio and Jerry agree can’t feel good for the actual GM of the Jets, at least by job title.
“If I’m Joe Douglas, I gotta read that and just cringe,” Gio said. “When we talk about Aaron Boone being controlled by Brian Cashman, I remember Boone would fight back on that. He would hate that…for us to say Aaron Rodgers is running the team, and for 30 sources to basically confirm that and say Joe Douglas is the assistant GM, they’re going down with Aaron Rodgers.”
Jerry credits Douglas for making some strong draft picks like Sauce Gardner and Garrett Wilson, but to be considered the assistant to a quarterback he brought in has to hurt.
“For a guy that brokered that deal and has done, in some places, good in the draft…they’ve assembled a good defense,” Jerry said. “There are parts of this team that you like. To read that, that’s a rough one. Especially if that’s how NFL types think of you.”
