Taijuan Walker turned in his worst outing of the season on Friday night, lasting just one inning while allowing seven hits and eight runs as the Braves swung their way to a 9-6 win to even the five-game series with the Mets.
It was the shortest outing of the season for Walker, and was the third straight start he surrendered seven hits, though he had been pitching to a 2.38 ERA over his last nine starts.
"I thought I felt pretty good in the bullpen," Walker said. "I went out there…and just leaving too many balls in the middle of the plate.
"I didn't do my job today. The bullpen had to wear it, which I'm not proud of at all."
The Mets were able to battle their way back behind four shutout innings from Trevor Williams, but Walker put the loss on himself for giving his teammates too deep of a hole to climb out of.
"When you give up eight runs," Walker said. "It's gonna be hard to come back from."
