Starling Marte, leaving a big void in the Mets lineup since fracturing his middle finger, told reporters on Saturday that he still felt pain when swinging a bat, and has stopped swinging.

Marte, who suffered the injury after being hit by a pitch in a game against the Pirates on Sept. 6, was placed on the 10-day IL last weekend, and would have been eligible to be activated this week, but it seems it will be a bit longer before the 2022 All-Star can make his return.

The 33-year-old did say that he is still hopeful he will be able to make it back before the end of the regular season.

Marte had tried swinging a bat and throwing on Thursday, but still feels pain when he takes a swing. Without him, the New York offense has struggled at times, missing a bat that has produced an .814 OPS this season.
