NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — In what can really be called a whirlwind of an offseason for the New York Mets, another positive development came along on Monday when the Mets introduced their new General Manager, Jared Porter.

Porter, who spent time with the Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs and helped both clubs break long championship droughts, comes to Flushing with the Mets looking to end their own drought that goes back to 1986.

After his initial press conference, Porter joined Howie Rose and Wayne Randazzo for a one-on-one conversation of their own.

"Maybe I was a lucky charm!" said Porter about the successes teams have had when he was a part of those various organizations. "I'm fortunate that Theo Epstein (former Red Sox and Cubs GM) has given me so many opportunities over the years, and he's a great executive."

Learning from one of the best, Porter said that completing the 2021 roster is his #1 priority right now.

"The roster to me is very critical. I think we have some really good players, and it's important to get those players performing at or above their ceilings," said Porter. "Making sure we have enough roster flexibility and versatility to get through a 162 game season. That's first and foremost what I am concentrating on."

Porter is happy with the moves the Mets have made so far and has heard great things about new Mets catcher James McCann.

"Everyone I have talked to who have thrown the ball to McCann, or even worked on the staff with him, it's been all across the board positives for him," Porter said. "He's a real good catcher."

Mets fans should be very happy with what they see so far, and with the GM in place they can expect more moves before the 2021 season gets underway in the spring.
