C-Mac heard the strong reactions to the Alex Verdugo trade, and he doesn’t understand why anyone would have a problem with acquiring a depth piece to fill an area of need.
“It boggles my mind. I’m sorry, I love you, I’m one of you, but you Yankee fans drive me nuts!” C-Mac said. “For nothing, they got a left-handed hitter in Verdugo…he’s an average to slightly above average major league outfielder, he puts the ball in play. The Yankees are looking for multiple left-handed hitters. This is exactly what the Yankees and their fans desperately wanted and need. They need more lefty hitters in this lineup. They need more lefty outfielders.”
Verdugo hits right-handed pitching well, plays a strong right field (center field is a different story), and has shown he can hit well in Yankee Stadium. For C-Mac, acquiring him for Greg Weissert and a pair of forgettable prospects is a no-brainer.
“This is a guy who played in Boston, in a big market, has played in this rivalry, is a contact hitter who struck out less than 100 times,” C-Mac said. “He’s about a .280 hitter. This is the exact type of player the Yankees need.”
