Plenty of Yankee fans have criticized the Yankees’ handling of injuries amid uncertainty with Aaron Judge and Gerrit Cole, but C-Mac says the team doesn’t owe the fans absolute clarity when it comes to player health.
“I understand Yankee fans are fed up with this kind of thing, but I’m not sure I understand exactly what bothers you so much about it,” C-Mac said. “Let’s be totally honest, Aaron Boone lied to you, to me, and to the media when he said Aaron Judge was supposed to come out after two at-bats…I don’t understand why this bothers people. In other sports, hockey, they just tell you the region on the body. We have no idea what goes on with hockey injuries. Bill Belichick mas made an entire career of not being completely forthright with injury news or any kind of news, and nobody cares because he’s the great Bill Belichick.
“I love everybody who says, ‘Just tell me the truth. Tell me he’s hurt right then and there, and I’d feel better about it.’ Now you’re lying!”
So, as fans wait for concrete diagnoses and timelines for two of the team’s most important players, C-Mac says the Yankees don’t need to give fans a behind-the-curtain look into how they’re evaluating these injuries.
“I don’t feel like the Yankees owe me to tell me every specific thing and the exact timeline,” C-Mac said. “It’s when he comes back. Plain and simple.”
