Giancarlo Stanton blasted another no-doubt home run on Wednesday night, traveling nearly 450 feet for his 17th of the season, and while the oft-injured slugger has been able to remain a lineup mainstay, Gio still can’t buy that Stanton will continue to stay healthy.
“No, he’s not going to. We know that. But I don’t want to jinx the guy,” Boomer said, before Gio shut down the idea of any jinx.
“You’re not jinxing him,” Gio said. “Because it’s impossible.
“I think we heard some of the same stuff last year about him coming into the season and changing his body…it’s just, to me, it’s more the reaction of the Yankee fan that is caught up in this season and just thinks that Giancarlo Stanton, because the year is going the way that it’s going, is that after a healthy two months, he’s just gonna cruise into the playoffs without having an injury and having this spectacular season. You just can’t count on that.”
Still, despite his doubts, Gio gave Stanton credit for putting in the work in the offseason to slim down and be counted on as a regular DH so far this season.
“This stretch right now, in this lineup,”Gio said. “He looks as lethal as he has since he’s been a Yankee.”
