Keith would love to see the Yankees add a “1B” starter to pair with Gerrit Cole, but he believes that addition can be an internal one if someone already in the rotation reaches their full potential.
Sure, the Bombers rotation has its share of question marks, but if Carlos Rodon can return to his 2021/2022 form, the Yanks will suddenly have a co-ace alongside Cole. In fact, while many wonder what will happen if the question marks in the rotation go wrong in 2024, Keith counters with the thought of, what if it all goes as hoped?
“If guys perform to the better side of what they’ve been, and not the opposite side - if guys give us 80 percent of what we know they can be, this rotation is one of the best in baseball,” Keith said.
Injuries are always a concern, but Keith says the Yanks have tried to counter that with a youth movement throughout the roster, including adding a young superstar in Juan Soto to pair with the prospects that were brought up at the end of last season.
“Injuries messed these guys up,” Keith said. “The Yankees are always hurt. Injuries ruined everything. Now they have young guys in the mix like Volpe, Dominguez, and Wells.”
