Sal: It's about time the Yankees start acting like the Yankees

According to ESPN’s Buster Olney, the Yankees are expected to be a main pursuer of Shohei Ohtani if he is made available by the Angels at the trade deadline.

Sal says, it’s about damn time.

“It’s about time the Yankees start acting like the Yankees,” Sal said. “That is exactly what you want to hear if you’re a Yankee fan…it’s nice to have the Yankees back and operating like the marquee franchise in all of Major League Baseball.”

Sal has previously said it would be “the dumbest thing ever” for the Yanks, or the Mets for that matter, to go after Ohtani via trade and empty the farm system at risk of losing Ohtani in free agency later this year, but the mere possibility of the Yanks showing a willingness to get the best player on the planet should be a breath of fresh air for those who have been wanting to see the return of the Evil Empire.

“If you don’t have to give up Volpe…at least this is a player that you know is worth the risk, whether it be giving up the players you have to get him at the deadline, and then also with the possibility of having him here long term,” Sal said. “If the Yankees feel they can get him at a good price…if there is one organization that can convince him over the span of three months, it’s the Yankees. They still wear the pinstripes, and that still means something. I don’t care where you’re from in this world. If you care or know anything about baseball, you know the importance of what it means to be a New York Yankee.”
