Roger Maris Jr. after Aaron Judge hits 62: 'No more trying to explain…how someone could possibly hit 73 home runs'

Roger Maris Jr. hasn’t hid the fact that he believed his father’s 61 home runs should be recognized by Major League Baseball as the “real” home run record, and he quickly crowned Aaron Judge as the new home run king after Judge blasted No. 62 on Tuesday night.

“Aaron Judge is the new CLEAN HOME RUN KING!!” Maris Jr. tweeted. “All the young kids who watched Aaron Judge set the single season record for home runs…you finally have someone to revere! No more trying to explain to you how someone could possibly hit 73 home runs.”

Maris Jr. said after Judge hit 61 in Toronto that MLB should step in and do something about the record books that are topped by sluggers like Barry Bonds and Mark McGwire, players with heavy ties to steroid use during the height of the steroid era in baseball. But regardless of the record books, Judge is still atop the franchise and American League record books.

That isn’t enough for Maris Jr., but the record books are unlikely to be changed.
