The Pittsburgh Steelers turned heads on Saturday, when they announced the hiring of Brian Flores as a senior defensive assistant and linebackers coach.
The former Dolphins head coach sent shockwaves through the league earlier this month, when he brought a landmark racial discrimination lawsuit against the NFL and several teams.
The high-profile addition to the Steelers' coaching staff was a hot topic on social media, where journalists, at least one NFL player, and countless fans were quick to weigh in.
Flores' lawyers, for their part, congratulated Flores and added that he will continue to pursue the lawsuit.
Here's what some were saying on Twitter:
Overall kudos to Flores/Tomlin/Steelers. I thought it was a wrap for Flores. I’m happy to be wrong, NOW let’s not get distracted. NFL still has a problem.

Let’s me be really clear: Flores getting hired isn’t a victory for anyone. He’s massively overqualified for the job he has now. And him getting the position almost proves the point of his lawsuit.

Is that clear enough now?

Of course, Steelers fans and adjacent media, whose first concern is seeing their team get better, were elated at the prospect of an accomplished head coach joining Tomlin's staff.
And while Steelers fans were celebrating what they saw as an excellent hire, fans of their mortal division rival were smarting over a missed opportunity.
