Here we go again...
The Star Tribune is once again bringing back the Homer Hanky for the Twins' playoff run.
An announcement revealing the 2019 version of the popular item is expected before the Twins-Yankees AL Division Series begins on Friday in New York.
White hankies with "Championship Drive" and "Official Star Tribune Homer Hanky" printed in red below a large baseball design debuted on Oct. 7, 1987, according to Twins team curator Clyde Doepner.
That was the date of game one of the 1987 ALCS, the Twins' first postseason game since 1970.
The Twins beat the Detroit Tigers that day 8-5 behind two home runs by Gary Gaetti in front of 53,269 hanky-waving fans at the Metrodome.
Thanks to a home run by Kent Hrbek, game two the following day also went to the Twins, who eventually toppled the Tigers and then knocked off the St. Louis Cardinals to win the World Series for the first time.
The Homer Hankies returned for the 1991 World Series run, and it's been brought back in various designs, one year the printing was blue, for postseason appearances in the 2000's.
It's fitting that Homer Hankies will fly at the home of the Twins, who set the major league record for home runs in a season with 307.
