There’s a brand new way to get your license tabs without the hassle of waiting in line at the DMV or, even worse, waiting weeks for them to arrive in the mail.
The Minnesota Department of Public Safety’s Driver and Vehicle Services division is installing machines inside 15 Cub Foods stores for customers to renew their tabs while they’re picking up a gallon of milk.
Department spokesperson Oliver Schuster says the machines will print out your tabs right then and there once your information is added correctly. He says it’s one of the ways DVS is trying to modernize and improve service.
“It’s basically like an ATM machine. We are putting these in locations that people are already visiting,” Schuster said. “They just go there with the last four of the VIN of their vehicle and some other information and register their vehicles.”
Schuster says they’re just starting to add locations and will update where the machines are on the Driver and Vehicle Services website.
“It’ll print out your tabs, and you can put them on right in the parking lot and drive home with your registration up to date,” he said.
